Clinic Policies

  • Clinic hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday

  • Due to availability you may be seen by another physician and not your family physician.

  • Alberta Health and Wellness does not cover all physician services.  Uninsured services (such as travel consults or cosmetic procedures) will be charged directly to the patient.  A list of such services along with cost are found in each clinic roomCost of services not covered by AHS are based on the AMA and CPSA recommendations.

  • Abuse of staff and/or physicians will not be tolerated and patients will be discharged immediately if deemed abusive.

  • The Foothills Medical Clinic is a University of Calgary training facility and you may be asked to be seen by a residents physician in training.  Patients have the right to decline to be seen by resident physicians however we do encourage patients to help us with the training of our future physicians.

  • Patients must come in to see their family physicians for test results.  At the Foothills Medical Clinic we strive to protect our patients' right to privacy.  No medical information will be provided over the phone

  • The Foothills Medical Clinic does offer same day walk in services.  Patients can present to the clinic and if deemed urgent, the patient will be triaged to be seen same day.  The patient may be seen by another physician other than their family physician and alternatively may be triaged to our After Hours Service.

  • Patients must present to to their family physician for all prescription refills.  No refills will be "phoned in" or "faxed in".

  • Missed appointments will be directly billed to the patient.  The Foothills Medical Clinic requires a 24 hour notice to cancel appointments.

  • Our physicians strive to limit waiting time to the best of their abilities.  However, in medicine, medical emergencies can arise at any time.  As such we appreciate our patients' understanding when their appointments are delayed.

  • Due to the overwhelming demand on today's physicians, we are asking our patients to please limit their requests to one request per visit.  If more time is required, the patient may be requested to book a second appointment.

  • Patients who are late to their appointment may be asked to book another appointment.

  • Due to unforseen circumstances, patient appointments may be cancelled by the physician or patients may be offered an appointment with another physician.

  • Patients are expected to to ensure the staff at the Foothills Medical Clinic are kept up to date with a current phone number, cell phone number, address, and emergency contact information. Patients are expected to inform the receptionist of any changes to your personal information upon arrival at the clinic.

  • In order to provide the best possible health care for the patient, a satisfactory doctor-patient relationship needs to occur. If for any reason, this relationship becomes compromised it may be terminated by either party.  If this occurs, the physicians at the Foothills Medical Clinic we will provide emergency medical care for one month, or when the patient finds a new family doctor, whichever comes first.
